The New Faces Of Horror
Horror can take any form. In American cinema it’s often in the violent presence of gore, or bright, sticky, gooey red blood. Sometimes in the form of the curdling sound of a screaming woman.

This fall’s TV lineup included each one of those horror staples . With Don Mancini’s Chucky series, Amazon’s I Know What You Did Last Summer reimagining, and Mike Flanagan’s horrific tale of a town destroyed by blind faith in Netflix’s Midnight Mass––Horror geeks everywhere had plenty of new blood to slash for the month of October.
The abundance of new treats added to the genre’s trick bag this season, it felt spookily right for American Studies to spotlight four exciting new faces in horror––whose contributions are bound to be new classics.

Madison Iseman plays two roles—twins at war; Lennon and Allison in I Know What You Did Last Summer’s gory new mystery. In Amazon’s reimagining, life is all graduation parties and joyrides until the unthinkable occurs, forcing a group a friends into keeping a brutal secret.

Igby Rigney play’s Zach Gilford’s curious younger brother Warren Flynn in Midnight Mass, Mike Flanagan’s latest haunting tale after the Mind-bending Bly Manor. In the Netflix series, a friendly new face in town brings havoc onto a tight-knit community. Mass’ ending turns the Final Girl trope on its head, all the while exploring religion at the intersection of horror. To get your full scare’s worth—Midnight Mass is probably best suited for midnight viewing. Next, Rigney will be seen in Flanagan’s follow-up —The Midnight Club. Based on the 1994 novel by Christopher Pike.

Zackary Arthur is Don Mancini’s new star in Scyfy’s Chucky series, playing Jake Wheeler, the latest kid to have his life flipped upside down after encountering a possessed Good Guy Doll. Arthur is an endearing hero in his portrayal of the troubled Jake. He’s the character you root for no matter which way he’s going.
