Gluck He jokes about his stature, though his presence is bold. A beacon of youthful charisma, Griffin stands at the intersection of raw potential and seasoned expertise. Beyond the screen, he reveals a multifaceted personality, and a genuine passion for life—and exudes a cool confidence that sets him apart—this is the essence of a rising star.

What you were like as a child?

Well I was born fully formed. I’ve always been like this. I would have been in the NBA if it weren’t for that one injury. I only shifted my focus to theater and performing because I thought it would be funny. I mean an athletic specimen like yself? I definitely did not learn to use humor as a defense mechanism, or  became a performer to get the attention I felt I was lacking. I mean, I was wildly popular and not at all small framed or unathletic and bullied for it.  My teacher once described me as a “huge distraction” to the rest of the class and a real rabble-rouser.

What’s your favorite film and why?

Something pretentious like Edward Yang’s A Brighter Summer Day or La Haine or Bong Joon Ho’s Mother. But most of all Step Brothers. It was the only movie I had downloaded on my computer for years growing up, so I would watch it every time I wanted to kill an hour and a half. I can recite that movie word for word and it’s probably where I get my sense of humor from. When Will Ferrell said “I didn’t want salmon, I said it four times”  I really related to that. I'm not a huge fan of Salmon either.

What’re some Griffinisms—that those that know you would agree with?

Telling you about the podcast I just listened to.Recycling Norm MacDonald Jokes. Interrupting a conversation to point out there's a dog nearby. Changing my travel plans at the very last minute. Making poorly timed jokes.

Describe Griffin in 5 words.

1. Rock 2. Flag 3. Eagle 4. Quarter 5. Japanese

Describe family in 3 words.

Ohana 2. Support 3. French-Toast.

Tell me about a family memory that is special to you, and why?

I’ll give a real answer for once. My grandfather was one of my biggest supporters and I absolutely adored him. He always made the effort to bond with me over the stupid things I was into, and did everything to make sure my sister and I led happy lives growing up. He unfortunately passed away just after midnight on my 20th birthday. It was pouring rain and overall a terrible birthday. Except, our whole extended family was there, together. Which was rare. I like to think it was a cosmic timing kind of thing. He brought everyone together to celebrate his life and mine on the same occasion. And now every year on my birthday, I get to celebrate his life too, so in a way, he’ll always be with me. Sad, sure, but also kinda beautiful.

Finish these sentences:

I can’t get over the fact that: I may have comedically peaked with Just Go With It

I’m constantly thinking about: Retirement.

You can usually find me: in Holiday brand sweatpants.

I’m totally obsessed with: building my collection of cameras

One thing about me is: I am gonna casually wear a tie out.

Miss me with the: Growing up and losing the magical whimsy of a child’s imagination.

We talked about your admiration for Mac Miller during your shoot. Why do you admire him?

He’s real as fuck, I don’t know how else to put it. An absolute gem of a human being. Raw and honest and not shy about sharing his personal struggles, in turn making myself and millions of others feel less alone.
