Sebastian Hansen plays Henry, in the first live-action Minecraft movie, who joined by his sister Natalie, graciously played by Emma Myers finds himself in the blocky world of Minecraft. In the spirit of every good adventure movie, it’s up to the siblings to find their way back home. But not before encountering some unlikely misfits along the way. The film also stars Jason Momoa, Jack Black, Jennifer Coolidge, and Danielle Brooks.
For 14-year-old Hansen, it’s a dream any Minecraft lover could only wish for. Minecraft released in 2011, selling over 300 million copies worldwide. Quickly becoming one of the best-selling games in gaming history. Now with Director Jared Hess at the helm, mega-fans of the game and passive players alike have the chance to see this world played out on the big-screen. In a way only Hollywood can do.
How do you manage schoolwork and acting at the same time? Is there something you do to stay on top of both?”I keep a balance between school and work.
I attend a regular public school where I usually like to finish up all my schoolwork, but if I have an audition, I have to be picked up early from school to complete it.
What do you enjoy most about being part of a movie that mixes video games with real-life acting?
The most enjoyable part for me was the amount of art and design that comes when making a movie. Having a refresher of the actual game really helps and continues to make acting feel easier.
What video-game or game in general are you totally obsessed with?
Growing up, I was a huge Minecraft fan which is exciting now being in the movie. Lately, I have been playing more 2D platformer games or any cool, fun puzzle games.
What’s one thing you’ve learned on a movie set that you think is important for kids your age? How has it changed the way you see things?
For kids my age, it’s important to get to know all the people around you on set and throughout. My idea of set has changed because I had never been on a big movie set before, it was a completely different experience for me that will help in the long run.
Tell us about a moment during this project that will stay with you for years to come.
Definitely the Elytra scene with Jack [Black] and Jason [Momoa] because that was really something. I can’t share any spoilers though, so you will just have to wait and see.
What posters do you have on your bedroom wall right now?
I don’t have any posters
What’s your favorite app to use on your phone?
Snapchat is my first choice since it’s an easy way to keep in touch with most of my friends. YouTube would be my second choice.
When you’re not acting or playing video games, what do you love to do for fun?
Probably hanging out with my friends by just spending time with them like going to the movies or just going out somewhere. Spending quality time with my family is fun also.
What’s one thing you love about your life right now?
Just the position that I am in now. I have friends, family, and I am about to go on a big press tour. I’m excited to really start my career in acting.
